85 candidates, including all 42 from Pejuang, lose deposits (msn.com)
A total of 239 candidates had vied for the 56 seats in the state assembly
With each candidate placing a deposit of RM5,000, Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s party lost RM210,000 to the Election Commission. Great contribution!
Other parties which saw all their candidates losing their deposits of RM5,000 each were four from Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), six from Sabah-based Warisan, one from Parti Sosialis Malaysia and one from Parti Bumiputra Perkasa Malaysia.
all 16 independent candidates also lost their deposits.
A candidate must obtain at least one-eighth, or 12.5%, of the total votes counted to keep their deposits.
As for others, PKR’s seven candidates forfeited their deposits, followed by Amanah (4), Bersatu (2), PAS (1) and Gerakan (1).
Debutant Muda, which saw one of its six candidates making it to the state assembly by winning in Puteri Wangsa, surprisingly did not lose any.
Other parties which had a clean slate were Barisan Nasional and DAP.
